Government authorities in Mindanao region have doubled down on their campaign against all forms of illegal activities particularly smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband.
The smuggled cigarettes were recovered aboard a commercial ferry that came from Jolo.
This, after at least P11 million worth of smuggled cigarettes were intercepted on Saturday by authorities in Zamboanga City.
Rear Admiral Rene Medina, Naval Forces Western Mindanao Command chief, said the smuggled cigarettes were recovered aboard a commercial ferry that came from Jolo, Sulu and docked at the local port.
The shipment consisted of 12,640 reams of assorted imported cigarettes.
Medina said this was the result of an intensified and focused maritime patrol and operation of the Philippine Navy (PN) in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies.
He vowed that PN and his command will remain vigilant in the conduct of their mandated task to deter any unlawful activities in their area of operation.
