A Twitter bug has been secretly exposing private tweets, the micro-blogging site revealed on Thursday.

In a post, Twitter said the bug disabled the “Protect your Tweets” setting for some Android users.

The option lets users go ‘private’ by controlling who can view their content and approve who can follow their account.

Users who made certain changes to their account like changing email address linked to their account from 3 November 2014 to 14 January 2019 were affected.

Twitter said it is still finding out the number of affected accounts. iOs and desktop users were unharmed.

Twitter added that it reached out to affected users and have turned the “Protect your Tweets” back on for them if it was disabled.

Twitter also encouraged users to review their privacy setting to ensure that their “Protect your Tweets” setting reflects their preferences.
