Senator Gregorio Honasan said Thursday President Duterte is likely to sign into law a bill mandating a 300 percent increase in pension for Filipino senior war veterans before the end of the year.

Senate Bill No. 1766 or An Act Increasing the Monthly Old-Age Pension of Senior Veterans authored by Honasan increases the current old age pension of P5,000 provided under Republic Act No. 7696 by P15,000.

If enacted, more than 6,000 World War II and Korean and Vietnam wars veterans will receive the P20,000 monthly old-age pension.

Living senior veterans and those who have not been receiving pension from the Armed Forces of the Philippines are eligible to the monthly pension. It will not, however, be transferable to any member of their family or dependents. In the event of death of the senior veteran, the pension of the surviving spouse shall still remain at P5,000 a month.
