Six persons, including two young children, were killed while 14 others were injured in a multiple collision involving at least 17 vehicles on Saturday night in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna.

Among the fatalities were a mother and her two children, aged one and two, who were sleeping inside the house at the time of the freak accident.

Supt. Eugene Orate, Sta. Rosa chief of police, said the incident happened 11:30 p.m. on Saturday on the Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road in Barangay Sto. Domingo.

It was gathered that prior to the accident, a 14-wheeler trailer truck coming from Tagaytay City and loaded with steel, suddenly lost control while traversing the downward portion of the road.

The truck plowed through and hit 16 vehicles, two motorcycles and one tricycle before ramming a roadside bakery and a house in the process.

Among the fatalities were a mother and her two children, aged one and two, who were sleeping inside the house at the time of the freak accident.

Also killed were the two passengers of the tricycle and one bakery staff.

Orate said a manhunt has been launched for the trailer driver who managed to escape after jumping out of the trailer truck before it hit the ill-fated bakery and house.
