Counting blessings for a busy 2018

It was a night to remember. When BDO Unibank hosted a thanksgiving party for media last week, they did find ways to make it a truly memorable one. Imagine screen and TV heartthrob Piolo Pascual making the girls swoon with his dashing good looks and bright smile.

Yet, the occasion was more than just a chance to meet up close the Unibank’s high-profile endorser. Instead, it was an opportunity for BDO to revel in its recent ranking as the “strongest bank” in the Philippines, based on the assessment by the Singapore-based The Asian Banker.

The commendation places the bank among 20 other strongest institutions in the Asia Pacific region.

This follows an earlier commendation for Mortgage Product of the Year Award given at the recently held 2018 Asian Banker Philippines Country Awards.

The event, held at the SM North Tower in Makati City, was also a kickoff of sorts for BDO’s joint Christmas celebration with SM Supermalls. On 15 December, it stages Pamaskong Handog 2018, a celebration for overseas Filipinos and their families, at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall at 2 p.m. Now on its seventh year, it features Pascual, Sam Milby, singer Moira dela Torre, love team Iñigo Pascual and Maris Racal and the Tawag ng Tanghalan kids finalists TNT Boys. It will also see performances by comedian Donita Nose, Tawag ng Tanghalan finalist Anton Antenorcruz and Jennie Gabriel, and is hosted by comedians MC and Lassie.

BDO Unibank officials in attendance at the event included chairperson Tessie Sy-Coson, president Nestor Tan, Marketing Communications Group SVP Cecille Fonacier and VP-Planning/Corporate Communications Paul Vincent Arcenas.

In interviews, Tan said they were expecting a promising 2019 despite this year’s volatile market. He admitted with the close of 2018, they expect a more hopeful one.

The night would not be complete without gifts for all the guests. BDO gave out prizes and gift certificates from SM affiliated hotels, including Park Inn by Radisson Davao, Radisson Blu, Pico Sands Hotel, Taal Vista Hotel, Conrad Manila and Park Inn by Radisson Clark, as well as prizes from SM and its other brands.
