Sen. Joseph Victor Ejercito yesterday said one of the reasons he is seeking reelection in the 2019 mid-term election is to ensure adequate funding and proper implementation of two landmark bills the Senate approved recently.
Ejercito was referring to the Universal Health Care (UHC) bill and the bill creating the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development (DHSUD).
“Our job is not over with the approval of these bills. We need to closely monitor the crafting of the implementing rules and regulations of UHC and DHSUD. We need to ensure that these are properly implemented based on our intent and objective,” Ejercito said.
He added that Congress must exercise properly its oversight functions to ensure proper implementation of the two important bills.
Likewise, he stressed the need to provide adequate funding of the two measures designed to provide quality health services and decent housing to all Filipinos.
“More importantly, we will make sure that there will be fund enough for the implementation of UHC and the DHSUD in order to achieve the essence of these landmark bills for the benefit of our ordinary people,” said Ejercito.
Ejercito is running for Senate under the Nationalist People’s Coalition. He was also endorsed by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago.
Previous surveys showed Ejercito ranked between 11th to 17th among the probable senatorial candidates. However, he expressed confidence his ranking will improve after filing his certificate of candidacy.
