“Keep your eyes on the stars, and your feet on the ground,” Theodore Roosevelt once said, and he might as well have been talking about footwear. While shoes keep you flat on the ground, they also allow you to soar higher, keeping your eyes on the stars.
This year, four brands have stepped up their game, paving the way for more people to reach further than their limits.

For competitive souls
For those who give their all for performances, Skechers is the shoe to run in.
Just recently, global athletic footwear and lifestyle brand Skechers held its inaugural Skechers Performance Run at SM by the BAY, Mall of Asia Complex with its stunning and fit celebrity ambassador Gerald Anderson.
The run’s mission is to make a fit and active lifestyle more accessible and enjoyable for people — fitting because Skechers’ slogan is “Go Like Never Before.”
Also at the event were other fellow Skechers ambassadors like Faith Garcia, who is also a triathlete, and actor Rodjun Cruz. Other famous faces were actor Marco Alcaraz; celebrity couple Vin Abrenica and Sophie Albert; Star Magic Basketball Team Blue members Jose Sarasola, Gerald Acao, Joe Vargas, Lou Abad and Kyle Velino; reality teen stars Yong Muhajil and Tin Hammond; athletes and fitness enthusiasts such as models Sam Ajdani, George Irineu, and Juliana Azevedos; volleyball player Rex Intal, as well as Gerald’s teammates from Marikina Shoe Masters MBPL team.
These big names were all geared up in their Skechers. Anderson wore the Go Run 6 which propelled him to finish fifth overall for the 5km category. Azevedos dominated the women’s 5k category by winning 1st place wearing the Skechers GO Run 6. Garcia won second Place in the women’s 10k.
George Irineu on his Go Run Forza 3, claimed, “It’s all you want in a performance shoe and more.”
As for the Go Run Ride 7, it is the go-to well-cushioned neutral shoe. It features the ultra-lightweight Flight Gen cushioned midsole for optimal impact protection and response and a durable high-traction outsole.
Rex Intal describes his Go Run Ride 7 and how it’s a great addition to his athletic routine. “As a volleyball player, it is important for us to work on our core, with planks and running; therefore, the Skechers Go Run is perfect for us. The Flight Gen is really great and I can’t wait to use them in training.”
The Skechers Performance Run’s 5k, 10k, and 21k run distances was sold out weeks ahead of the event, selling a total of 3000+ race kits. The run welcomed both beginners and advanced runners altogether.
When the time to call out the winners came, three champions emerged with impressive times: Joseph Mururi won the 21k category with a chip time of 01:15:13, while Edward Macalalad won the 10k category in 00:37:09. Joseph Odhuno won the 5k category with 00:19:19.
In line with the Skechers Performance was its launch of its newest and the brand’s most advanced running shoe collection, introducing the all-new Flight Gen midsole technology.
Flight Gen is a new-generation midsole designed to provide a highly responsive ride with plenty of cushion protection. It generates an increased rebound with less weight, coming in a huge 30 percent lighter than the previous Gen 5 midsole material.
All the latest renditions of Skechers Performance flagship running silhouettes, the Go Run 6, Go Run Forza 3 and the Go Run Ride 7 feature Flight Gen and the brand’s signature Midfoot strike technology, which promotes efficiency in each stride, to deliver speed and comfort to wearers.
As Anderson quips, “This, for me, is the best shoe.”

For the urban survivor
For those who were born to survive the hustle, PONY is the go-to sneaker brand that keeps one walking to their dreams, no matter the distance or the struggle. The hustle is real.
Born in New York City in 1972, PONY came out with sneakers designed for fast-paced people and was quickly identified as the “kicks built to survive the tough streets of NYC.”
Worn by sports legends like Muhammad Ali and Pele, it became synonymous with the fighting spirit and a straightforward attitude.
PONY’s latest, the Cavetta collection, was launched at the XX XX Club at Makati City. The Cavetta collection is inspired by old-school Japanese gym sneakers in classic white and black is bringing back basic styles and colors. For those who want to run the world
Saucony recently launched its latest Run Your World campaign at the 123 Block, Mandaluyong City.
The brand has been running in the shoe industry for over a century and two decades, now a global running and lifestyle brand. Needless to say, it is one of the most successful brands.
With that in mind, Saucony has learned, evolved and developed the brand since 1898.
Through this passage of time, Saucony was able to unleash a running invention that enables one to run their world in comfort and adjust better to the concrete ground, which is unnatural for humans to be on because people were designed to be on real terrain. But with Saucony, it’s possible to feel refreshed even after a run.
The Vintage Collection is especially known for the shoe called Jazz Original Vintage. This showcases the shoes’ original form and style: an authentic mesh toebox, unlined tongue, at bespoke sockliner, weatherized upper and an off-white midsole.
In addition, its classic logo branding at the tongue and heel tab stamps the shoe’s major throwback vibe along with a nostalgic shoebox akin to the ones used way back in 1983.
Saucony also reveals the Freedom ISO2, a performance-driven design and next-generation running technology, all-new for fall 2018. Its predecessor, the Freedom ISO, broke new ground as the brand’s first-ever performance running shoe with a full-length EVERUN midsole.
The second-generation Freedom makes its debut featuring ISOKNIT, an engineered performance knit that works with Saucony’s racing-inspired ISOFIT system to deliver the brand’s most dynamic and unbounded running experience to date.
Meanwhile, the White Noise Collection is inspired by today’s world that is full of distractions, clutter and chaos that distracts focus and robs people of tangible connections, hence the name.
Running is one of the best ways to clear one’s mind and activate all the senses, which brings Saucony to deliver the White Noise Collection. Saucony’s top-selling trainers are designed with a splatter melange upper representing noise, and brightly colored midsoles representing clarity.
Performances of local musicians and bands like Urbandub, Autotelic, Ebe Dancel and Ang Bandang Shirley were the highlight at the Saucony event.
