No-nonsense police work and a weeklong manhunt — and a check on Facebook — led to the arrest of a 27-year-old mortgage and financial analyst slapped with 80 counts of rape and 40 counts of sexual assault before a court in Makati City.
In an exclusive interview by the Daily Tribune, SPO3 Marlon Ermino, the leader of a three-man team tasked by Makati City Police chief Supt. Rogelio Simon to arrest Franze A. Ramirez, said they are now waiting for a commitment order against the suspect.
Ramirez was earlier misidentified as having “Ferrer” as his surname in a police report sent to the Southern Police District last Saturday. Makati City Regional Trial Court Judge Robert Victor Marcon issued the arrest warrants against Ramirez.
Ermino’s team, including SPO2 Ronaldo Robles and PO2 Jeffrey Paloma, tried to track the suspect in his last known residence at Block 135, Lot 14 Aguinaldo Street in Barangay Rizal.
But a woman told the policemen that the suspect had already relocated to another house while refusing to give his new address.
On a hunch that the suspect may have a Facebook account, the policemen then downloaded a photo of an FB account holder with the name “Franze A. Ramirez.”
They showed the photo to the victim of record in the rape and assault charges, a minor, and bingo! The minor tagged the FB account holder as her alleged assailant.
Ermino said he, Robles and Paloma went to J.P. Morgan Chase and Co. building on Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City at 12:30 a.m. on Saturday where they arrested Ramirez.
Ermino described Ramirez as a tall man who nonetheless did not resist arrest when they pounced on him. He said they are awaiting instructions from Judge Marcon to detain Ramirez at the Makati City Jail.
The suspect, who has no prior criminal record, is presently being held at the holding cell of the Makati City police headquarters.
