Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte was thankful over a survey result putting her in the top 10 “senatoriables” but said she prefers to serve her fellow Dabawenyos if they will re-elect her.
“I am overwhelmed by the trust and confidence. I think our fellow Filipinos are interested in the work that my administration, both now and in 2010, has done in Davao City. If the Dabawenyos will re-elect me, I would like to continue working for Davao City as Mayor. Thank you,” said Duterte on Sunday.
President Rodrigo Duterte’s daughter was reacting to the result of a nationwide survey conducted by Pulse Asia showing her as among potential senatorial candidates for the mid-term elections who have a “statistical chance of winning” a Senate seat.
The mayor ranked No. 5 or 6 in a list of 66 personalities that 1,800 adults polled in the first week of September said they will vote for if the elections were held today. Her fifth to sixth place ranking represent 39.5 percent of respondents.
The Pulse Asia survey was topped by Sen. Grace Poe being the choice of 70.1 percent of respondents.
The respondents who were asked to choose 12 from the list of 66 names also picked Sen. Cynthia Villar (55.7 percent) putting her at second place. Taguig City Rep. Pia Cayetano was at third with 54.4 percent followed by Sen. Nancy Binay (50.6 percent), Mayor Duterte, Sen. Edgardo “Sonny” Angara Jr. (37.1 percent), Sen. Jinggoy Estrada (34.6 percent), Ilocos Nortet Imee Marcos (32.6 percent), former Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III (32.4 percent) and former Sen. Lito Lapid (32.2 percent).
