The trough of a low-pressure area (LPA) will bring rains over Metro Manila and other parts of the country this weekend, the weather bureau said.

The LPA was spotted early Saturday morning at Borongan City in Eastern Samar, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported.

Senior weather specialist Chris Perez said they are also monitoring typhoon Jebi, which was last spotted 1,945 kilometers east of Northern Luzon.

The typhoon packs maximum sustained winds of 205 kilometers per hour (kph), with gusts of up to 255 kph.

PAGASA said Jebi is not expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility.

Apart from Metro Manila, the trough of the LPA will affect Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol Region, Mimaropa and the Visayas.
