Baguio City is very serious in enforcing its anti-smoking ordinance that a task force composed of representatives from different city government offices and concerned private groups makes the rounds and monitors establishments and public places for violators.
Wardens at the Baguio City Jail are even more zealous in enforcing the ordinance. They make sure no one can bring in cigarettes for the inmates to smoke.
Two women visitors dared to smuggle tobacco leaves inside the city jail by hiding them in their undies. Unknown to them, the city jail had begun implementing a new policy of body frisking on visitors to prevent contraband from being brought inside.
The first woman hid tobacco leaves in her sanitary napkin when she visited the jail Friday, but these were discovered when she was frisked. She was banned from visiting the jail.
An old woman tried the trick the following day, thinking that her age would exempt her from the body inspection. But the packs of tobacco leaves hidden in her panty were found and confiscated.
Jail smokers will just have to put up with their craving for tobacco.
