Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go has said the presidency may prove to be the “last hurrah” of President Rodrigo Duterte after almost 40 years in public service, including 22 years as mayor of Davao City. Duterte has expressed his desire to retire in 2022.
But SAP Go said Duterte also knows by heart what the people of Davao want and need.
“If Davaoeños still need him, there’s nothing wrong with that, they will keep on looking for him, most especially his presence means so much to Davao. The criminals, especially, get scared when they see him,” said Go in answer to a reporter’s question if the President may still be persuaded to run for mayor of Davao City at the end of his term.
In fact, electing him seven consecutive times is proof that Davaoeños just can’t get enough of their beloved mayor.
