A sidelight of the annual State of the Nation Address of the president is the fashion show of legislators and their spouses. The effort and stress they go through in choosing what to wear for the occasion may be unimaginable.

If there is one thing the fashion-conscious lawmakers dread in coming to the Batasan session hall to listen to the SoNA, it’s not wardrobe malfunction that Hollywood celebrities are prone to, but rather wearing something that closely resembles their colleagues’ outfit or something that match curtains or tablecloth in the venue.

One exception, however, is Sen. Nancy Binay. After becoming the butt of media jokes for her apparently poor choice of gowns in the past two SoNA, the daughter of former vice president Jejomar Binay was again ready for ridicule in Monday’s opening of the third regular session of Congress.

Wearing a baby blue Filipiniana gown by Randy Ortiz that coincidentally matched the color of the floor cover, Binay jokingly told reporters upon entering the Session Hall, “”O di ba, match na match ako sa carpet?”
You have to hand it to Sen. Binay for humor.

And, fortunately, there was no runaway vacuum cleaner around at the time.
