Ateneo De Manila University hardly encountered any resistance from LSU-Atletas of Lithuania as it ran away with a lopsided 98-65 win to bolster its bid for a podium finish in the 40th William Jones Cup last night at the Xinzhuang gymnasium in New Taipei City, Taiwan.
After starting out slow, 20-17 in the first quarter, the Blue Eagles launched a 23-11 second quarter barrage to turn the slim three-point lead into a comfortable 43-28 gap entering the half.
Then, Ateneo unleashed a 25-6 rally to pad the lead, 68-34, midway through the third canto that took the fight out of the Europeans.
With the win, Ateneo improved to 4-2 win-loss slate to boost its bid for a podium finish with still two games left against Iran and Chinese Taipei White.
Nine out of 10 players barged in the scoring column with William Navarro leading the way with 20 points, five rebounds, five assists, four steals and a block in just 23 minutes of play.
