The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) asked the public yesterday to help the agency in cleaning up the 273 creeks or esteros in the metropolis.
The MMDA has started to clean the Estero de Magdalena in Manila after it has become a big garbage dump site for residents there.
Other esteros facing garbage problem are the open channel located at the boundary of Pasay City and Paranaque City. Another one is the Congo Creek straddling Barangays Hagonoy and New Lower Bicutan.
Congo creek is one of the esteros in the National Capital Region placed under the “Adopt an Estero Program” of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
The purpose of the project is to help local government units (LGU) ensure that the 43 esteros in Metro Manila are clean.
