Six individuals, three of them policemen, were arrested by operatives of the Philippine National Police-Counter Intelligence Task Force (PNP-CITF) for involvement in illegal cockfighting in Bulacan.
Senior Supt. Romeo Caramat Jr., PNP-CITF director, identified the arrested PNP personnel as PO2 Michael Somido, assigned to the National Capital Region Police Office; PO1 Raymond Meneses, of Caloocan City Police Station, and PO1 Rhovel Araceli, of Northern Police District.
Two other government employees, Albert de los Reyes, a traffic aide of San Jose del Monte, and Almelito Bascon, a staff of Sangguniang Panlalawigan, were also nabbed, along with their alleged collector Rodrigo Gojo Cruz.
The six were collared during an operation at Heroesville Subdivision in Barangay Gaya-Gaya, San Jose del Monte town at around 10 a.m. Sunday.
Recovered from the six were a .9mm Glock pistol, a .9mm Beretta pistol, a Bersa Thunder caliber and 40 pistol.
Other pieces of evidence seized were five fighting cocks and several gaffs.
“Arrested PNP personnel, including the said government employees and civilian, are now under the custody of CITF for documentation and eventual filing of appropriate criminal and administrative cases,” Caramat said.
The PNP-CITF has intensified its campaign against erring members of the PNP in compliance with the directive of PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde.
