NCRPO cracks whip vs illegal water connection syndicates
The NCRPO chief warned that unauthorized connections disrupt utility distribution, degrade water system reliability and expose residents to safety risks.
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has ordered all five police districts in Metro Manila to intensify operations against syndicates and individuals installing unauthorized water connections during the threat of a Super El Niño dry spell.
NCRPO officer-in-charge Police Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano issued the directive Friday following the arrest of two alleged leaders of illegal water tapping groups operating in the Baseco Compound in Port Area, Manila.
Police intelligence reports revealed that the suspects charged residents between P5,000 and P10,000 to install unauthorized connections to main supply lines.
Abrahano instructed police district commanders to coordinate with water concessionaires, local government units, and barangay officials to identify vulnerable communities, conduct joint inspections, and act on local complaints.
He also directed investigators to target organizers, financiers and collectors driving the illegal operations.
“We will not allow unscrupulous individuals to take advantage of our people’s need for water, especially during periods when access to this essential resource becomes a serious concern,” Abrahano said.
“No one should be allowed to profit from unauthorized connections or exploit families simply trying to secure water for their households,” he added.
The NCRPO chief warned that unauthorized connections disrupt utility distribution, degrade water system reliability, and expose residents to safety risks and potential legal prosecution.
Abrahano urged the public to deal exclusively with authorized utility providers and report any individuals soliciting payments for unauthorized connections.
