PLDT wins three straight, dents Creamline's record
Savi Davison exploded for 22 points to power PLDT to a 25-19, 25-27, 25-23, 25-23, victory over erstwhile unbeaten defending champion Creamline in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Season 10 All-Filipino Conference Siklab series on Thursday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The Filipino-Canadian punched in 20 attacks with a kill block and an ace while tallying 19 excellent receptions and eight digs as the High Speed Hitters strung a third straight victory for a 3-2 win-loss record tied with Choco Mucho and Farm Fresh in third to fifth.
PLDT quickly recovered from surrendering the extended second frame and held tough in the closing stretch of the last two sets to snap the Cool Smashers’ four-game winning streak.
“I think, you know, we have to be aware that we might drop a set to Creamline because they're a very strong team. You know, how can we stay close in score? How can we, you know, get back immediately? Like I said, always going up against Creamline is going to be a tough match,” Davison said.
“And, you know, after the two first losses, I think, I don't want to say a wake-up call, but I, you know, I think we've been working harder in the gym and technically as well as, you know, Coach kind of subbing in. You know, we're just trying to do it for each other at this point, and, you know, everyone is contributing, so it's working out really well.”
Dell Palomata added 13 markers while Alleiah Malaluan submitted 10 markers for PLDT, which won seven of its last eight head-to-head meetings.
Creamline slipped to second spot and suffered a third straight loss to the High Speed Hitters, including a loss in the Invitational Conference battle for bronze.
Bernadeth Pons scored 14 and had 10 digs while Bea De Leon and Jema Galanza got 11 and nine markers, respectively, for the Cool Smashers.
