Marinduque reports only 3 animal rabies cases
Province strengthens veterinary services and disease surveillance following national recognition
BOAC, Marinduque — Marinduque recorded only three positive animal rabies cases during 2025 and 2026, according to the Provincial Information Office (PIO), as the province continues strengthening its animal health and disease prevention programs.
In response to inquiries by the Daily Tribune, the PIO reported improved compliance among pet owners with anti-rabies vaccination programs and greater awareness of responsible pet ownership.
The Provincial Veterinary Office also intensified animal quarantine measures at ports of entry to help control African Swine Fever (ASF) and strengthened mitigation efforts against the potential effects of El Niño.
To further improve disease surveillance, the province plans to expand cooperation with the Philippine Coast Guard Veterinary Services, AFP Veterinary Corps, disaster risk reduction offices, municipal agriculture offices, and rural health units.
The initiative aims to improve monitoring of infectious animal diseases, including those transmissible to humans.
Through animal health caravans, veterinary personnel will also extend services to rural communities to help livestock raisers prevent diseases and reduce economic losses.
Marinduque recently received three distinctions at the Animal Health Congress in Quezon City, including two recognitions for its rabies prevention programs and recognition as an ASF-Recovered Province.
Under Governor Melecio J. Go, the provincial government continues promoting animal health protection, responsible pet ownership, and disease prevention.
