Index crimes drop 11.5% in Ilocos Region in October
Reported index crimes in the Ilocos Region declined by 11.5 percent in October 2026, with 69 incidents recorded, down from 78 in September, according to comparative crime statistics released by Police Regional Office 1 (PRO 1).
Rape cases recorded the sharpest decline, dropping by 48.1 percent from 27 in September to 14 in October. Theft cases also decreased from 22 to 17, physical injury cases from 11 to 10, and motorcycle-related cases from seven to six.
However, several crime categories registered increases. Robbery cases doubled from six to 12, while murder and homicide incidents each rose from two to four. Motor vehicle-related cases also increased from one to two.
PRO 1 Regional Director PBGen Crisaleo R. Tolentino attributed the overall decline to heightened police visibility, intensified crime prevention efforts, faster response times, and stronger partnerships with local communities.
Tolentino called the decrease encouraging but urged continued vigilance and strategic police operations across the region. He also encouraged residents to report suspicious activity and cooperate with local law enforcement to help maintain peace and order.
