ASEAN Human Rights delegates tour Makati infrastructure
Regional delegates and international human rights representatives concluded a two-day conference on localizing human rights by touring municipal infrastructure and youth development facilities across Makati City, local officials announced Thursday.
The local government, led by Mayor Nancy Binay, hosted the forum on 3 and 4 November in partnership with the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), the European Union, and the ASEAN Governors and Mayors Forum.
The summit brought together municipal leaders, Southeast Asian and European diplomats, national human rights institutions, and civil society groups to evaluate urban policies that integrate human rights standards into local governance.
Following plenary sessions on 3 November, international delegates conducted field visits on 4 November to three key municipal sites: the Makati Youth Home, the Teen Center at Makati High School, and the rehabilitated Tripa de Gallina creek site.
The Tripa de Gallina site represents a multi-year urban renewal and relocation initiative. Prior to government intervention, informal settlements and accumulated waste lined the waterway, exposing residents to severe flood hazards.
