Games tomorrow:
(Philsports Arena)
3:30 p.m. — NU-Archipelago Builders vs AFP
Alpha Insurance scored back-to-back wins in less than 24 hours, taking advantage of an undermanned Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in a quick workout, 25-19, 25-21, 25-15, in the Spikers’ Turf Season 10 Invitational Conference on Thursday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
It took the Protectors just 77 minutes to dispose of the winless Cavaliers to move up to fourth spot with a 3-2 win-loss record.
Axel Van Book led Alpha Insurance with 13 points on 12 kills and an ace while Reymark Betco came off the bench to chip in 10 points, all from attacks.
The Protectors’ victory came a day after sweeping Cabstars, 25-19, 25-22, 25-20.
“From the start, since we got the schedule, we really studied how we’ll go about our training, time our rest and when to do light training. So, we really prepared for this kind of schedule,” Alpha Insurance head coach Fritz Santos said.
“It yielded good results and the players responded well,” he added.
JJ Javelona had eight points in just two sets of action as a reliever while Barbie San Andres scored six for Alpha Insurance.
The Protectors rained down 47 attacks and were active at the net with seven kill blocks.
Alpha Insurance completed a sweep despite throwing away 28 points from errors.
The absence of AFP top hitter Ranran Abdilla and veteran setter Jessie Lopez left the team without its go-to scorer and playmaker as it continued to find fine form.
The Cavaliers remained winless after six games.
No AFP player reached double-digit scoring, with Herald Domingo finishing with seven points. Pol Salvador got five points while Jaidal Abdulmajid had four.
