A homecoming for Cebu's creative talents
Cebu commands attention for its wealth of creative talents across fashion, theater, visual arts and literature.
For several Cebuano creatives, home remains an important part of their personal and professional journeys. From fashion and theater to visual arts and literature, their work reflects a continuing connection to the province and its creative community.
Leading this homecoming is Cebu-born model Marjay Ramirez, who became the first Cebuana to win Ford Supermodel of the World Philippines in 2001, at age 14. She represented the country at the international finals in Miami and went on to walk for designers including Mary Katrantzou, Donna Karan, and Roberto Cavalli.
Now a mother and entrepreneur based in Cebu, Ramirez appears on the cover of Vogue Philippines' November issue. The accompanying fashion spread was photographed in Boljoon, featuring creations by Cebuano designers King Rosales and Anthony Romoff.
Also featured are Tony Award-winning costume and set designer Clint Ramos, who speaks about his enduring connection to his hometown, and fashion designer Cary Santiago, who reflects on his 40-year career and his involvement in the Cebu Young Designers Competition.
Their stories, along with those of other Cebuano personalities, appear in the magazine's November "Passions" issue, which puts Cebu's creative community in focus.
