South Korea’s ACCMGF checks on AFAB’s best practices, good governance
The South Korea-based Anti-Corruption Civil Movement General Federation (ACCMGF), a member of the Union of International Associations (UIA), paid a visit to the Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB) in Mariveles, Bataan on 21 October 2026.
The said visit aimed to check on the best practices, as well as the transparency and good governance of the Authority of the Freeport area of Bataan (AFAB).
The ACCMGF delegation was led by President Weon Deokho, and was joined by Philippine Organizing Committee for the UN International Anti-Corruption Day Commemoration Chairman Kang Jang-won.
During the South Korean delegation’s visit, AFAB presented an overview of the FAB, covering its strategic location, key industries, and investment opportunities. The visit also gave the group a chance to learn about AFAB’s best practices in managing the zone through transparency and good governance.
Through the PH Organizing Committee, Chairman Kang has been active in regional development efforts in Bataan.
According to Kang, “New industries and infrastructure are taking shape across Bataan. In Mariveles, the Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB) already hosts hundreds of companies, and the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge, which will span Manila Bay to connect two provinces, is under construction.”
“So what can Korea and Bataan accomplish together? I believe the potential is enormous. But the relationship ahead must go beyond Korean companies simply doing business in the Philippines and taking home the profits,” he added.
“What is needed is a structure of shared growth, in which Korean technology and experience contribute to the development of Philippine communities, and Korean companies in turn gain new markets and opportunities,” he furthered.
He recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Bataan Public-Private Partnership and Investment Center (PPPIC) and the International Digital Assets Committee (IDAC). The agreement aims to foster corporate investments and consortiums for infrastructure development in Bataan.
The Bataan PPPIC is the provincial office of the Provincial Government of Bataan responsible for driving economic growth, managing private-sector investments, and structuring public-private partnership (PPP) projects under Governor Joet Garcia.
To recall, the International Digital Asset Committee (IDAC) led by Chairperson Won Eun Sok signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Provincial Government of Bataan in February to promote digital asset services and position Bataan as a global digital innovation and blockchain hub.
