Who does not have a sweet tooth? You can probably count with your fingers the number of people who do not enjoy having a sweet and delicious treat every now and then. But, sadly, due to health conditions such as diabetes, some people have to shun desserts that they love and hope to find less sinful sweet treats — and it often comes in the form of sugar-free desserts. Dieters, especially those on a ketogenic diet, do the same. Lessen their sugar intake and lower their consumption of carbs, that is, because carbs eventually turn into sugar in the body.

While it used to be difficult to find bakeshops that offer really good sugar-free desserts (much more difficult to find those that are also low-carb and keto-friendly), it is easier now, thanks to specialty bakeshops such as Chrisha’s Kitchen.

Founded by a young baking enthusiast, Chrisha Chua, whose love for baking began during her childhood and started selling her homemade Sans Rival at age 16, Chrisha’s Kitchen specializes in sugar-free, low-carb, keto-friendly desserts. Her passion for her “mission” is so strong because, growing up, she personally struggled with her weight because of her love for food. So she became more conscious of her health and thus committed herself to a healthier lifestyle through mindful eating and regular exercise. Her motivation got so strong and personal because, aside from herself, she also wanted to develop good, healthy and delicious food, including sweet treats, for her dad, who is diabetic.

After earning her degree in Commerce, major in Marketing, though, Chrisha decided to pursue a corporate career first, but never once did she drop her baking hobby. She would still bake at home and bring her baked creations to the office to share with her friends and workmates, who loved her homemade treats so much that they encouraged her to start selling her products. She seriously thought about it and eventually turned her childhood passion into a business with a meaningful purpose — that of creating delicious food that people can enjoy while at the same time being more mindful of their health.

The business grew, and eventually Chrisha found it difficult to balance her corporate responsibilities with her growing baking business. She ultimately decided to follow her heart and pursue baking full-time, thus laying the foundation for what would become Chrisha’s Kitchen.

In 2017, Chrisha adopted a ketogenic lifestyle, which meant significantly reducing her carbohydrate intake. She soon realized how difficult it was to find desserts that aligned with her new way of eating, so she, a dessert lover herself, started creating treats that would allow her to enjoy the food she loved without the usual sugar and high carbohydrate content and so with her dad. This became the motivating factor for Chrisha’s Kitchen, which turned out even more exciting desserts when Chrisha’s sister, Christine Tan, officially joined the business as her business partner in 2019.

SILVANAS

So, what started as an online business selling Sans Rival, first and foremost, under its low-carb and sugar-free concept grew into a band offering more than 40 products. Its range now includes specialty cakes, silvanas, cake cups, cookies, brownies, breads, ice cream and frozen yogurt.

As a business built on the belief that people should not have to give up the pleasure of eating delicious desserts simply because they are trying to eat healthier, Chrisha’s Kitchen has also evolved into a chain of four physical stores located at Glorietta-Makati (opened in 2022), Alabang Town Center in Muntinlupa (2024), Ayala Malls Manila Bay in Parañaque (2025), and Robinsons Magnolia in Quezon City (2026). More branches are in the offing, with one at Estancia Mall in Pasig City, and another at SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City, where the brand plans to introduce its first restaurant concept.

Yes, a restaurant! After staying with the kiosk concept for its branches during the pandemic and beyond to establish a presence in strategic mall locations while maintaining a cost-efficient business model, Chrisha’s Kitchen now becomes a full-fledged restaurant, which will be a significant milestone for the brand. Beyond its signature low-carb and sugar-free desserts, it will introduce delicious low-carb meals, which will allow it to serve customers beyond their dessert cravings and become a comprehensive destination for people seeking low-carb food options.

Its target market remains the same: people following ketogenic and low-carb lifestyles, health-conscious individuals, and people living with diabetes.

When it comes to must-tries, especially for first-timers, Chrisha recommends starting with the brand’s signature Sans Rival and Silvanas. These are among the closest to their traditional sugared counterparts in terms of taste and overall eating experience, making them excellent introductions for customers who are new to low-carb desserts.

Then there are the specialty cakes to try, particularly the Ube Buttercream Cake, Valrhona Chocolate Fudge and Carrot Walnut Cake.

However, not every product sold under the business is so, as Chrisha’s Kitchen also offers a separate line called Sugar Delights by Chrisha’s Kitchen, which features conventional sugared treats, including seasonal and trending products such as the Dubai Chewy Cookie.

The two product lines serve different customer preferences, but the main focus of Chrisha’s Kitchen remains the development of innovative low-carb food. Now, you do not have to choose between enjoying delicious food and being mindful of your health. You can have both.
