Vice President Sara Duterte visited the graves of her family members in Cebu City and Davao City over the weekend as part of her annual observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

On Sunday, Duterte visited Queen City Memorial Gardens in Cebu City, where she offered flowers, lit candles, and prayed at the graves of her deceased maternal relatives.

“Along with our observance of All Souls’ Day, we went to Queen City Memorial Gardens in Cebu City to visit the graves of my departed family members on 1 November,” Duterte said in a Tagalog statement posted to her official social media accounts.

On 2 November, the vice president visited the family mausoleum at the Catholic Cemetery in Davao City to pay respects to her paternal grandparents, Vicente and Soledad Duterte.

Soledad Duterte, widely known as “Nanay Soling,” was a public school teacher and prominent civic leader who led the Yellow Friday Movement in Davao during the martial law period under former President Ferdinand Marcos. She was the mother of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

Vicente Duterte was a lawyer and served as governor of the undivided province of Davao in the 1950s.

Reflecting on the holiday, the Vice President urged Filipinos to remember their deceased relatives in their prayers.

“My fellow countrymen, in our prayers, let us not forget to pray for the peace and eternal rest of our loved ones who have returned to the Lord,” Duterte said.
