NGK unveils five-year green technology plan
Japanese ceramics manufacturer NGK Corporation has unveiled a five-year environmental plan aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving resource efficiency and developing cleaner industrial technologies by fiscal 2030.
Announced on 1 October 2026, the company’s Sixth 5-Year Environmental Action Plan covers fiscal 2026 through 2030 and includes emissions reduction targets across its operations and supply chain.
NGK aims to limit its combined Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions to 370,000 metric tons by fiscal 2030, comprising 190,000 metric tons from direct operations and 180,000 metric tons from purchased energy.
The company also targets a 25 percent reduction in Scope 3 emissions, which include indirect emissions across its value chain, compared with fiscal 2022 levels.
To achieve these goals, NGK plans to expand renewable energy use, improve manufacturing efficiency and adopt lower-carbon fuels in energy-intensive production processes.
The company will also advance carbon capture, utilization and storage technologies, which are designed to capture carbon dioxide emissions for reuse or permanent storage.
Beyond carbon reduction, NGK intends to strengthen recycling and resource conservation while reducing water withdrawals relative to net sales by 0.5 percent annually.
The manufacturer also plans to introduce indicators to measure and communicate the environmental benefits of its products.
