DepEd secures discounted Apple laptops for public educators
Malacañang announced Tuesday that the government will distribute more than 172,000 Apple MacBook Neo laptops to public school teachers and staff across the country to support digital education.
Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro said in a Palace briefing that the Department of Education (DepEd) purchased 172,654 units following directives from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to modernize teaching tools.
“Upon the orders of the President, the Department of Education has taken a major step in expanding digital education in the country by purchasing 172,654 Apple MacBook Neo laptops for teachers and staff of public schools,” Castro said reading a statement from DepEd.
“This is part of the goal of providing teachers with modern equipment to facilitate the preparation of lessons and other educational activities,” she added.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara said the initiative aims to lessen the personal financial burden on educators, who often buy and maintain their own teaching devices.
DepEd procured each MacBook Neo for approximately P43,000 — a P6,900 discount off the regular retail price. The package includes a five-year warranty, bundled productivity tools, and specialized technical training.
To complement the rollout, DepEd partnered with Apple to launch the “GuroXL” program, a training initiative designed to help teachers integrate technology into classroom instruction. Participating educators will also have opportunities to earn Apple Teacher Certification and other professional credentials.
Apple CEO John Ternus cited that the partnership marks the company’s largest educational contract for Mac computers to date.
Laptop distribution will begin in November 2026 and run through March 2027, with regional launch activities planned across Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao.
