Persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at Masbate City Jail observed All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day through a candle-lighting activity to honor and remember their departed family members and loved ones.

The PDLs gathered inside the jail facility to light candles and offer prayers for their departed loved ones, observing the annual Undas tradition despite being separated from their families.

BJMP Bicol Information Officer Joefrie Barbacena Anglo said the activity underscored that incarceration does not diminish the emotional bonds PDLs maintain with their loved ones.

He noted that their memories, prayers and longing for departed family members remain, highlighting the importance of recognizing their humanity and personal connections while serving their sentences or awaiting the resolution of their cases.

Similar activities were also conducted in other jail facilities across the Bicol Region, with jail personnel ensuring compliance with security and safety protocols.

The candle-lighting observances provided PDLs an opportunity to take part in the annual tradition of remembering the dead through prayer and reflection while maintaining security and order inside the facilities.
