The police presence was intended to help maintain peace and order not only in cemeteries but also in areas expected to draw large numbers of visitors during the holiday period.
BAGUIO CITY — The observance of All Saints’ Day in Baguio remained peaceful as of Sunday morning, with police reporting no major incidents despite the steady arrival of visitors at cemeteries across the city.
Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) chief Nixon Laoyan said around 4,500 people had visited the Baguio Public Cemetery along Naguilian Road and other cemeteries in the city as of 8 a.m. on 1 November.
Authorities expected the number of visitors to increase in the succeeding hours, as more than 50,000 people were projected to visit the different cemeteries in the city during the Undas observance.
Laoyan said police personnel deployed at the public cemetery along Naguilian Road confiscated bladed weapons and other prohibited items, including cleaning materials.
He reminded visitors to follow cemetery rules and regulations and appealed for patience in case of inconveniences caused by traffic congestion and the movement of large crowds.
Aside from personnel assigned to cemeteries, the police maintained their regular deployment along major thoroughfares and at popular destinations, including parks and other tourist attractions.
