WHAT ELSE, TAIWAN?

Taiwan makes chips, but that’s not all; at a Makati mall recently, it had plenty more to show.

Taiwan makes chips, grows crops, sells all sorts of things. Can it get Filipino shoppers to buy them? Its businesses recently went to Makati to find out.

For two days, Taiwanese companies displayed their wares at Glorietta, hoping to reach customers who might know Taiwan for its technology but little else.

The TaiwanLink Fair 2026, organized by the Taiwan Association Inc., brought together businesses selling food, consumer goods, tech and other products and services.

Taiwanese businesses have operated in the Philippines for years, investing in local industries and providing employment.

Taiwan Association president Jia Hsieh said Taiwanese enterprises contribute not only products but also investment, jobs and technology to the Philippine economy.

The fair was intended to make more Filipinos aware of that presence.

There was more to see than merchandise.

A screening of A Chip Odyssey told the story of Taiwan’s semiconductor industry, while the Taiwan Technical Mission presented agricultural cooperation programs supported by the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund.

Those programs aim to help Filipino farmers improve their harvests and incomes through better farming methods and technology.

The organizers counted about 2,000 participants in QR-code activities and 636 entries in the lucky draws.

The Taiwan Association hopes to make TaiwanLink a regular event, giving companies more opportunities to meet customers and potential business partners.
