La Union sets up learning centers in remote communities
The provincial government of La Union has established Community Learning Resource Centers in two remote barangays to improve access to educational materials and strengthen grassroots literacy among children and young people.
The centers were established in Barangay Gallano in Aringay and Barangay Bulalaan in Sudipen on 28 to 29 October as part of the Provincial Government of La Union’s efforts to bring learning resources closer to underserved communities.
Supported by Gov. Mario Eduardo C. Ortega, the initiative aims to provide children and youth in upland areas with additional educational resources to support their studies and expand their knowledge.
Developed in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), the facilities are equipped with books, laptops and DOST’s STARBOOKS, a digital science library containing references on subjects such as biology and chemistry, as well as educational tutorials.
Barangay Bulalaan chairman Eric Balisong thanked the provincial government for establishing the facility and pledged to help maintain the center for the benefit of residents of Bulalaan and neighboring Barangay Duplas.
The provincial government said the learning centers are expected to provide sustained educational opportunities in remote communities while helping improve literacy and knowledge development at the grassroots level.
