Kris Aquino expressed her hope of becoming part of the Department of Health (DoH) in the future.

When asked by host Boy Abunda on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda on Wednesday, 28 October, if she had plans of joining public service, Aquino’s reply was curt: “Yes, but I’m not healthy. My dad had always… parang ‘yun ang akala nung dad ko para sa akin (it’s what Dad feels is meant for me), but we need a miracle. Hindi ibibigay ang lahat (not everything will be given).”

With her battle with autoimmune diseases posing a major threat to her health, Aquino feels that instead of running for office, she could make good use of her experience if she were appointed to a position at the DoH.

“But ako, if ever, sana ma-appoint na kung sino man ang mahahalal na maging ano DoH [appointee] kasi sa experience ko (But if ever, I hope to be appointed by whoever is elected, in the DoH, because of my experience),” she said.

Aquino feels she is qualified because “alam nilang hindi ako magnanakaw, and ‘yung mapababa lang ang cost ng gamot, ang laking bagay na (they know I’m not a thief, and just lowering the cost of medicine would already make a big difference).

“Maybe by not taxing the importation of medicine so high, we can already make it so affordable,” she explained.

Aside from her proposed tax cut on imported medicine, Aquino feels that trustworthy individuals are what the government badly needs. She believes that people with integrity and accountability should be the ones managing public funds.

“Feel ko kasi talaga na dapat ang mga na-appoint, ‘yung alam ng taong may natabing pera na (I feel that those appointed should be people whom the public knows have already saved money). Wala po akong sinasabi at pinariringgan ngayon (I am not saying anything or alluding to anyone), but I would think we deserve honest public servants,” she concluded.

Andrea Brillantes’ scary shooting experience

Shooting her latest movie in Oslob, Cebu, was quite an experience for Andrea Brillantes.

In a recent interview, Brillantes shared that her eardrum burst while a freediving scene was being shot in the deeper portion of the sea, where she was interacting with butanding, or whale sharks.

“Kailangan kong abutin ‘yung mga butanding, and minsan, may malalaking butanding na ang lalim (I needed to reach for the whale sharks, and sometimes, the big whale sharks were deep underwater),” she recalled.

Brillantes was scared while doing the scene because of her piercing and the braid in her hair.

“Hanggang sa narinig ko na talagang pumutok ‘yung tenga ko. Ta’s akyat ako. Naalala ko, medyo na-nosebleed pa yata ako. Ta’s talagang sobrang sakit ng tenga ko. Tawag ako agad sa Mama ko kasi, nagpa-panic ako (Until I heard my eardrum burst. Then I went up. I remember, I may have had a nosebleed. My ear was really hurting. I immediately called my mom because I was panicking),” Brillantes recalled.

Brillantes’ mom, Belle, is a four-time national champion freediver and a national record holder who represents the Philippines.

According to Blythe (Andrea’s real name), she and her mom took freediving lessons together, but she got busy with taping for a TV series.
