International Boxing Federation (IBF) minimumweight titleholder Pedro Taduran admits adapting to the techniques of training substitute Joven Jimenez is a bit of a challenge but the country’s lone Filipino world champion swears they are getting along well.

“He’s got a different style that I am used to but we are trying to reconcile our methods,” Taduran told DAILY TRIBUNE 10 days before he confronts Spanish mandatory challenger Brandon Moreno at the Kiva Auditorium in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Jimenez, who is in Las Vegas, was called in to help Taduran after resident trainer Carl Peñalosa was unable to secure a US visa early this week.

Assisting Taduran is his fighter, former world super-flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas.

They are all camping out at Sean Gibbons’ Knucklehead Boxing facility in Las Vegas.

But the one thing that Taduran is putting extra attention to is his weight.

Before flying to the United States last week, Taduran tipped the scales and weighed in at 126 pounds.

But after just a few days under the tutelage of a dietitian, Taduran’s weight was down to a manageable level.

Contacted on Thursday, Taduran revealed that he was down to about 112 pounds.

And when the team travels to New Mexico during fight week, Taduran would like to further drop to 106 or 107 pounds.

“That way, it won’t be hard getting down to 105 during the weighin,” said the southpaw Taduran, who just turned 30.

The showdown with Moreno will be Taduran’s fourth defense of the crown.

Last April, Taduran scored a seventh-round knockout of Gustavo Perez Alvarez of Mexico in Temecula, California.

Peñalosa was in his corner in that fight.

Jimenez is no spring chicken in world title fights.

He was in Ancajas’ corner during the almost six-year reign as world champion.

Taduran need not worry because he is in good hands.
