Love without measure
My husband Glenn and I have always been a small family, just the three of us, with our only child, Eduard. Looking back, I realize how much joy and meaning he has brought into our lives. We’ve been there for his milestones, shared in his achievements, and held him close when things did not go his way. Like any parents, we had our worries, challenges, and even disagreements, but through it all, our love for Eduard has always brought us back to what matters most. We are incredibly proud of him and deeply grateful that we have had the privilege of being his parents.
I often wonder how other parents of an only child feel, because each family has its own little stories. So, I asked a few mothers what they consider the greatest reward of raising an only child. Their answers were touching and, in many ways, familiar.

The greatest reward is seeing Anthony become the man he is today. Knowing that our love and guidance helped shape him is something Winglip and I will always be proud of.

Raising Leila gave us the joy of developing such a close bond with her. We truly got to know her and watched her grow into a wonderful young woman, while being an only child also helped her become independent from an early age.

Raising an only child brought us a special closeness. I’ll always remember our seven-year-old son, Eric, running through the door after school, saying, “Mommy, Mommy, the joy of your heart is back.” That deep bond is what I treasure most as his mother.

The greatest joy of having an only child is the special bond we share through the years. Michael has become my greatest joy, companion, and a constant source of pride as I watch him grow into the wonderful person he is today.

The biggest reward is knowing that despite raising Iñigo on my own, I was able to give him a childhood filled with love, security, and the confidence to become a good man. And one day, when he’s grown, I hope he can look back and realize that while it was just the two of us, he was never lacking in love.

One of the most fulfilling parts is seeing our son, Nicolas, grow into an independent person who makes his own choices. We were especially proud when he chose to study in Michigan and graduated from the University of Michigan.
