Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac personally checked on the condition of three overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) receiving treatment at Dr. Mahmoud Dossary Hospital in Al Khobar, reaffirming government support for hospitalized workers abroad, officials announced Wednesday.

The hospital visit complies with a directive from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for government agencies to directly monitor the health and welfare of ill or hospitalized OFWs and ensure they receive necessary medical care.

During the visit, Cacdac met with the patients and assured them that the DMW, through its overseas offices and partner agencies, would handle their welfare needs and medical requirements.

“The safety, health and welfare of our workers abroad remain the government’s top priority,” the DMW said in a statement, stressing its mandate to provide prompt assistance to Filipinos in medical distress.

Alongside the hospital visits, the DMW extended financial and welfare assistance to distressed female Filipino domestic workers in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Region using the agency’s AKSYON Fund.

The fund provides emergency relief and intervention for domestic workers facing difficult working conditions or legal disputes while Philippine authorities process their welfare cases.

The Migrant Workers Office serving the Eastern Region is coordinating with local Saudi authorities to handle case management and facilitate the safe repatriation of vulnerable workers where warranted.
