DMW chief visits 3 OFWs injured in Saudi attack
Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac personally visited three overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) currently receiving medical treatment at Dr. Mahmoud Dossary Hospital in Al Khobar to check on their condition, reaffirming the government's commitment to protect and assist Filipino workers who need support abroad.
The visit was conducted in accordance with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to ensure that the government personally monitors the welfare of Filipino workers who fall ill or are hospitalized abroad, and to guarantee that they receive the necessary care and assistance from the government.
During their visit, Cacdac expressed the government's care and support for the patients. He also gave messages of hope and encouragement, and assured that the government will continue to focus on the welfare of Filipinos working abroad, especially those experiencing illnesses and other medical problems.
The visit reaffirms the DMW's commitment to delivering humane, prompt, and appropriate assistance to OFWs in need. Through its overseas offices and partner agencies, the agency continues to coordinate to ensure the delivery of necessary welfare services and assistance to Filipino workers.
The DMW assured all overseas workers that their safety, health, and welfare will remain the government's top priority, and that they will continue to receive support in times of need.
Meanwhile, the DMW also extended assistance to distressed female Filipino domestic workers in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Region through the AKSYON Fund.
The assistance aims to address the immediate needs of distressed domestic workers who may be facing difficult circumstances, providing them with much-needed support as the Philippine government works to facilitate appropriate interventions for their welfare and protection.
Through the AKSYON Fund, the DMW strengthens its capacity to respond to the urgent needs of distressed OFWs. This assistance is part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to provide responsive and compassionate services to Filipino workers facing difficulties abroad.
The Migrant Workers Office (MWO) serving the Eastern Region plays a vital role in identifying distressed workers, assessing their needs, coordinating appropriate interventions, and facilitating access to available government assistance. Close coordination among Philippine government offices and relevant stakeholders remains essential to ensure that affected workers receive timely and appropriate support.
Recognizing the vulnerabilities that female domestic workers may face, the DMW continues to pursue welfare interventions that prioritize their safety, protection, and access to assistance. Where warranted, these interventions may include welfare case management, coordination with relevant authorities, and assistance with their safe return to the Philippines.
Through the AKSYON Fund and other migrant worker protection programs, the DMW remains steadfast in fulfilling its mandate to assist distressed OFWs and to uphold their rights and dignity, regardless of their circumstances.
