Cebu leaders welcome Dizon back to DoTr
CEBU CITY -- Regional officials and business leaders in Cebu welcomed the return of Vince Dizon as Department of Transportation (DoTr) secretary and congratulated outgoing chief Giovanni "Banoy" Lopez on his appointment to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Local stakeholders expressed optimism that the leadership changes across both key infrastructure agencies would help accelerate critical transit developments and streamline regional projects.
Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro expressed hope that Dizon’s return to the DoTr would advance regional transport programs and enhance connectivity to support economic expansion.
"Efficient transportation and reliable infrastructure are essential to Cebu’s continued development," Baricuatro said. "We welcome Secretary Dizon’s return to the DoTr and hope that national and local governments can work closely together to address transportation concerns and deliver better services to the public."
Meantime, Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival also voiced support for the transition, stressing that stronger coordination between municipal units and national authorities is needed to solve long-standing urban mobility challenges.
Echoing the local officials, businessman and philanthropist Blake Nelson Go noted that Dizon’s appointment offers an opportunity to fast-track regional transit initiatives that serve commuters and commercial hubs.
"Secretary Dizon’s return to the DoTr brings renewed hope for more efficient transportation services and the faster implementation of projects that can benefit commuters, businesses and our communities," Go said.
Go underscored the necessity of close collaboration among the DoTr, the DPWH, local government units, and the private sector to ensure that roads, public transit routes, and support infrastructure complement one another.
He also commended Lopez on his move to the DPWH.
"I also congratulate Secretary Giovanni Lopez on his new role at the DPWH. I hope his experience in public service will contribute to infrastructure projects that Filipinos need," Go said, adding that sustained infrastructure investment will boost Cebu's tourism, trade, and employment sectors.
