Paris Olympics double gold medalist Carlos Yulo vowed to come back stronger after missing the podium over the weekend at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Yulo, 26, admitted that the results fell short of his expectations but remained grateful for the opportunity to compete against the world’s best.

The two-time Asian Games champion finished eighth in the men’s floor exercise final with 13.244 points before settling for seventh in the vault with 13.883.

Despite the disappointment, Yulo took pride in sharing the world championship stage with his younger brother, Eldrew, who made his debut in the prestigious competition.

“It wasn’t the result I hoped to give, but I’m always grateful to our Lord for giving me this opportunity. Not just to compete, but also to learn, grow, and see the bigger picture,” Yulo said in a social media post.

“Super proud of my younger brother Eldrew! We both fought hard, gave everything we had, and left it all out there. We know how much we gave and how hard we worked for this.”

Yulo said he would focus on the lessons gained from the competition as he looks to bounce back from the disappointing results.

“We may fall short of the results we dream of, but we will never stop fighting, learning and believing,” he said.

“By God’s grace, we’ll come back stronger. Always for the Philippines.”

The Yulo brothers will have another major test next year when the World Championships in Chengdu, China, serve as a qualifying event for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
