Taguig housing projects see sharp drop
The estimated value of approved residential construction projects in Taguig City plummeted by 91.1 percent in the second quarter of 2025, according to Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) data released recently.
Figures from the PSA-National Capital Region showed that the value of approved residential construction in Taguig dropped to P250 million from P2.79 billion during the same period in 2024.
Despite the sharp contraction in project value, the total number of approved residential building permits fell by only 5.9 percent, from 68 to 64, indicating a substantial reduction in the average scale or valuation of approved housing developments.
Overall, the total estimated value of approved private building construction in Taguig declined by 65.8 percent to P1.15 billion, down from P3.36 billion a year earlier. Total approved building permits fell by 16 percent, from 243 to 204.
Nonresidential construction in Taguig recorded a 37.5-percent decrease in approved project value, falling from P170 million to P110 million, with permits slipping from 23 to 22.
Conversely, the estimated value of additions, alterations, and repairs doubled, rising 100.9 percent to P800 million from P400 million, despite total permits for such works decreasing from 140 to 117.
Taguig accounted for 6.6 percent of approved building permits and 3.9 percent of total construction value across Metro Manila during the quarter.
In contrast, neighboring Pateros recorded a 63.9-percent surge in total approved private construction value during the same quarter, rising to P99.95 million from P61 million in 2024, despite a slight 2.9-percent dip in approved permits from 34 to 33.
Residential developments drove the growth in Pateros, with project values increasing 50.4 percent to P81.54 million from P54.20 million. Apartment and accessoria projects accounted for the bulk of residential investment at P42.98 million across six permits, while 13 single-unit residential permits totaled P37.17 million.
Nonresidential project values in Pateros jumped 141.4 percent to P9.02 million across two commercial permits, while additions, alterations and repairs surged 207.1 percent to P9.40 million.
