Iloilo eyes golf tourism boost
ILOILO CITY — Iloilo is gearing up to welcome hundreds of golfers and visitors as the 24th Bamboo Tee Golf Tournament returns to the historic Iloilo Golf and Country Club Inc. in Santa Barbara on 12-15 November 2026.
The Department of Tourism (DOT-6) expects around 300 to 350 golfers from various parts of the country to participate in the tournament, including business executives, professionals and leaders from different sectors.
Beyond the competition, the four-day sporting event is expected to help promote Iloilo’s history, culture, local attractions, gastronomy and other tourism experiences across Western Visayas.
DOT-6 is working with the Iloilo Golf and Country Club, local government units, tourism establishments and other stakeholders to showcase destinations and activities that participants can experience beyond the golf course.
Regional Director Crisanta Marlene P. Rodriguez emphasized the importance of sporting events in expanding tourism opportunities and strengthening collaboration with the private sector.
The tournament is also expected to generate funds that could help rehabilitate the Iloilo Golf Club Museum, supporting efforts to preserve the historic golf club’s heritage.
Organizers and stakeholders are likewise looking ahead to two major milestones in 2027: the 25th anniversary of the Bamboo Tee Golf Tournament and the 120th anniversary of the Iloilo Golf and Country Club.
Through the tournament, tourism stakeholders hope to turn the influx of golfers into opportunities for local businesses while introducing more visitors to Iloilo’s cultural and historical attractions.
