Vice President Sara Duterte praised Filipino teachers who have chosen to remain in the country despite employment opportunities abroad, recognizing their sacrifices and dedication to educating the nation’s youth.

In a message delivered during a World Teachers’ Day celebration at the SMX Convention Center in Lanang, Davao City, Duterte acknowledged the heavy responsibilities shouldered by educators and thanked them for continuing to serve Philippine schools.

“Thank you for choosing to stay in our own country to teach young Filipinos, despite the many opportunities awaiting you abroad,” Duterte said in Filipino.

Duterte, who headed the Department of Education (DepEd) from June 2022 until her resignation in July 2024, also paid tribute to teachers for their role in guiding young Filipinos despite the challenges associated with their profession.

“I sincerely thank all Filipino teachers for your hard work and dedication in guiding and shaping the future of young Filipinos,” she said.

“Your immeasurable love for your sworn duty, despite the weight of the responsibilities it entails, has left a lasting impression on our hearts,” she added.

More than 5,000 educators from schools and districts across Davao City attended the celebration organized by the city government and the DepEd’s Davao City Schools Division.
