Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso marked his 52nd birthday Saturday by awarding 52 families new public housing units during an in-city vertical housing project raffle, city officials announced.

The public draw selected 52 beneficiary families who will move into ready-for-occupancy units at San Lazaro Residences, a 20-story vertical housing development in Manila that includes a community health center, a city-owned public laboratory, commercial space, a swimming pool and function rooms on 24 October 2026.

The two-bedroom units measure 42 square meters and require a monthly contribution of P2,000 to P3,000.

Domagoso and Vice Mayor Angela Lei "Chi" Atienza personally drew the winning stubs before an audience of approximately 3,300 applicants watching live broadcasts on official city government social media channels.

"On my birthday, it brings immense joy to offer hope and a new beginning to families dreaming of decent housing," Domagoso said.

The mayor, who grew up in an informal settlement, explained that properties developed under the municipal program remain under city government stewardship to prevent beneficiaries from illegally reselling public housing assets.

Under the program's financial framework, beneficiaries who later vacate their units receive a full refund of their total contributions.

A family residing in a unit for 20 years at a monthly rate of P2,000 would receive P480,000 upon surrendering the property.

Domagoso added that collected monthly payments are invested in government securities under a municipal ordinance enacted during his previous term, with the fund accumulating P50 million to date.

San Lazaro Residences represents the seventh completed in-city housing development under Domagoso's administration, joining Tondominium 1, Tondominium 2, Basecommunity, Binondominium 1, Pedro Gil Residences and San Sebastian Residences.

An eighth project, Binondominium 2, remains under construction.

"Congratulations to the 52 Manila families drawn in the grand raffle," Domagoso said. "Our efforts do not end here. Rest assured, we will continue the in-city vertical housing project so that more Manila families can secure their own homes."
