Government offices, banks, and private businesses that unjustifiably refuse to accept the Philippine Identification (PhilID) card may face fines of up to P500,000.

Akbayan Rep. Chel Diokno reminded the public in a social media post that the National ID must be accepted as valid and sufficient proof of identity in government, banking, and private transactions under the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) Act and Executive Order No. 162.

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) emphasized that the card must be accepted without the holder having to present any other identification documents.

Diokno’s reminder comes as the film “2 Valid IDs” continues its run in cinemas nationwide. The film follows a poor farmer who struggles to claim money sent by a relative because he lacks the required identification documents.
