The Commission on Elections (Comelec) warned the public against circulating disinformation claiming that the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) will take place this year, reiterating that no poll activities or candidacy filings are scheduled for October 2026.

“Be critical. Verify before believing and sharing information,” the poll body advised in a public statement.

The warning follows a viral Facebook post from the page “Gallazy Sharly Paradise” claiming that the 2026 BSKE would proceed and that the filing of certificates of candidacy would open on 26 October 2026.

“There will be no Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections this year under existing laws, and there will be no filing of CoCs on 26 October 2026,” Comelec clarified.

Comelec stressed that official schedules for candidacy filings and related electoral activities will be formally announced through Comelec resolutions and official pronouncements.

Poll officials cited that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed Republic Act 12326 into law, extending the term of office for barangay and SK officials from four years to five years and rescheduling the next local youth and barangay elections to 2028.

While legal petitions challenging the constitutionality of Republic Act 12326 are pending before the Supreme Court, Comelec pointed out that the high court has not issued any temporary restraining order or injunction against the law’s implementation.
