The local government of Cainta, Rizal has upgraded the town's drainage systems by putting up huge box culverts in various villages to ease flooding ahead of the rainy season.

"Resdential areas or villages along Imelda Avenue bear the brunt of the flooding during heavy downpours. We always make the headlines," Mayor Keith Nieto said.

"I have already installed the booster pumps to push the water out of the Cainta River. A lot has changed," the local chief executive added.

However, upon inspecting the drainage pipes of the villages, it turned out that the developers had only installed small concrete pipes.

"Worse, most of the waterways are heavily silted, so water can no longer flow in and rainwater has nowhere to go," Nieto said.

Nieto said they have already started installing massive box culverts in Greenpark Subdivision to replace the drainages that are no longer working.

"Next is Karangalan, then Vista Verde, Country Homes, and Village East. Once I finish this, we'll have a huge fighting chance [against flooding]," the local chief executive added.
