AEP-Cabstars and Savouge notched their first victories after hurdling their respective foes in the Spikers’ Turf Season 10 Invitational Conference on Sunday at the Playtime FilOil Centre in San Juan.

The Cabstars weathered Ranran Abdilla’s 37-point explosion to beat Armed Forces of the Philippines, 26-28, 25-20, 25-17, 25-18, and end a two-game losing skid.

Leo Aringo finished with a team-high 23 points on 22 attacks and one block while tallying 22 excellent receptions for AEP.

Dave Lardizabal backstopped Aringo with 15 points on 12 attacks, two blocks, and one ace, along with seven excellent digs. John Santiagudo and Paul Malaiba added 11 points apiece. John Wayne Arano orchestrated the offense with 25 excellent sets and three points.

Meanwhile, the Spin Doctors, last year’s runners-up, swept 3B, 25-18, 25-22, 25-20, for a 1-2 win-loss record tied with their victim.

Joeven dela Vega led Savouge’s balanced scoring with 10 points while Jared Schnake and Mark Calado added nine markers each.

Carl Berdal and Harry Ocay finished with 11 each in a lost cause for the Event Masters.

AEP squandered a 24-21 lead in the opening set as Abdilla went on an attacking spree and ignited a telling rally to steal the frame for the Cavaliers.

The Cabstars shook off the meltdown and regrouped to take control of the match, dominating AEP in the next three sets to seal the one-hour, 44-minute victory and improve to 1-2 in the standings.
