The Eastern Samar provincial government has committed to providing additional motorcycles and patrol vehicles to help police respond to emergencies and reach communities more quickly.

Gov. Ralph Vincent Evardone made the commitment during the provincial launch of S.A.F.E. Eastern Visayas: In Case of Emergency, Dial 911, an initiative of the Police Regional Office 8.

The unified 911 hotline links the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to coordinate responses to fires, rescue operations, medical emergencies and other urgent incidents.

Evardone said the provincial government would consider funding more vehicles in its next budget, noting that police needed adequate transportation to respond to incidents. He also praised the provincial police for increasing patrols and checkpoints across the province.

The S.A.F.E. Eastern Visayas initiative was developed by PRO-8 regional director Police Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño, who previously implemented a similar program in Negros Island Region.
