Carrie White’s nightmare is only beginning.

Following the success of its first season, Carrie has officially been renewed for a second season, with creator Mike Flanagan and executive producer Stephen King returning to continue the reimagined story based on King’s iconic debut novel.

The series, which premiered on 7 October, quickly became a global hit, reaching the number one spot on Prime Video in more than 105 countries. All eight episodes of the first season are currently available on the platform.

Starring Summer H. Howell as Carrie White and Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White, the series offers a fresh take on the classic coming-of-age horror story, exploring the forces that shape Carrie beyond the infamous prom night.

The first season follows Carrie as she enters the harsh world of public high school after years of isolation under the control of her fiercely protective mother. As she faces bullying, online cruelty and public scrutiny, Carrie’s mysterious telekinetic abilities begin to emerge alongside her struggles with identity and acceptance.

“Carrie is connecting with both longtime Stephen King fans and a new generation altogether — including young adults and international audiences, with particular strength among female viewers,” said Peter Friedlander, head of Global Television, Amazon MGM Studios. “It speaks to the enduring power of this story and signals that Mike Flanagan’s reimagining of the iconic IP has real breadth.”

Flanagan said the series was always envisioned to explore more than Carrie’s infamous prom tragedy.

“For 50 years, audiences have known and gravitated to Carrie White’s story. From the beginning, we imagined a story that goes far beyond the prom, and I’m incredibly grateful for Stephen’s trust and support in exploring what comes next,” he said.

King also expressed excitement over the next chapter.

“I can’t wait for audiences to get to see what’s down the road for Carrie White. Mike Flanagan and I are excited about what comes next. It’s bound to be thrilling,” he said.

The first season also features Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle, alongside recurring appearances from Flanagan collaborators including Kate Siegel and Rahul Kohli.

Based on Stephen King’s 1974 novel, Carrie marked the author’s first published book and later became a cultural phenomenon through Brian De Palma’s 1976 film adaptation, which earned Academy Award nominations and celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

Season two of Carrie is currently in development on Prime Video.
