Hotter days call for a few everyday essentials to help you stay comfortable, hydrated and protected from the sun.

Reusable water bottle. Keep water within reach at home, at work or while running errands to encourage regular hydration throughout the day.

Umbrella and wide-brimmed hat. Use these to create shade when walking outdoors and reduce direct exposure to the sun.

Lightweight clothing. Choose loose-fitting, breathable fabrics that help keep the body cool in warm weather.

Sunscreen. Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher sunscreen to exposed skin, and reapply according to the product instructions.

Portable fan. A handheld or battery-operated fan can offer temporary relief when commuting or spending time outdoors.

Oral rehydration solution. Keep oral rehydration salts available for situations involving significant fluid loss, such as diarrhea. Follow the package directions and seek medical advice when needed; these are not a substitute for routine drinking water.

A cool place to rest. Identify shaded areas or air-conditioned spaces where you can take a break, especially during the hottest part of the day.
